Going up from Harchin to Phargam Pass in Chitral

One of my favorites, this photo was taken in early September 1990 while going up from Harchin to Phargam Pass in Chitral. Notice the man's footgear: it is nothing but old pieces of cloth wrapped around and tied with thongs.

This is Ameer of Phargam village. He was a sirdar porter during my Buni Zom (Main) Expedition in 2002. I don't know if he is still alive, but he was a very nice and energetic man!
